THESE SHINING LIVES
by Melanie Marnich
Directed by:  Krista Price

SHOW DATES:
November 14-16 @ 7:00 pm
November 16 @ 2:00 p.m.

These Shining Lives is a heartfelt drama that highlights the true story of the strength and determination of hundreds of young female factory workers in the 1920s and 30s who were exposed to radium poisoning in the workplace. The play, although inspired by real people and actual events, is a work of creative non-fiction.  It moves between fact and fiction, between reality and imagination, to create a beautiful theatrical world and deep/real characters.

CAST LIST

Click HERE. Thank you to ALL who auditioned.  Even if it did not work out the way you hoped this time, I'd still love to have you involved - and get to know you and your work ethic/commitment to theatre.  Stay tuned for musical audition information coming out soon...!

AUDITIONS

Auditions are September 4 or 5.  If you'd like to audition, READ / COMPLETE the following...

  1. READ the entire Audition Information Packet HERE.  (Do this FIRST!)

  2. CHOOSE a character/scene with which you'd like to audition.  (See "Audition Scenes/Characters" below.)

    • Not all characters from the play are available to audition with for the first round of auditions.

    • For auditions, choose a character that you can best show in auditions.  (Do not choose multiple characters/ monologues - we will only have time for your strongest choice/option.) This doesn't mean that your chosen monologue/character the only character for which you will be considered. Specific characters and character combinations will be worked out at callbacks.

    • The first round of auditions is simply to show strong character choices (voice, BODY, face, pauses, etc.) with ANY character so the director can see your choices/abilities, and most importantly your POTENTIAL.

    • You do NOT need to memorize your audition piece.  In fact, it's advisable that you don't (because it can be very jarring if you forget a line and don't have your script).  Instead be familiar enough with your piece so that you can show your character choices...but you are fine to have the script with you.  Be sure to bring a PRINTED copy of your scene.

    • You do NOT have to be experienced to audition, so just give it a try!  The director is NOT looking for talent or perfection...just great people to work with who are brave enough to make choices for their characters.

  3. SIGN UP for an audition day/time HERE so Ms. Price knows how many auditioners to expect.

  4. COMPLETE an Audition Form HERE  (must be COMPLETED BEFORE you audition)

  5. COMPLETE a Conflict Calendar (PRINT the Conflict Calendar from your Audition Information Packet, and BRING to auditions).  You CAN NOT make it to callbacks if I don't have your Conflict Calendar.

AUDITION SCENES (SIDES) / CHARACTERS:

Not all characters are represented below; these are simply the characters used for round 1 of auditions.

See audition packet for full list of characters.

CALLBACKS:

Callbacks (the 2nd round of Auditions) are by invitation only and will be on Monday, September 9 (after school).  The Callback list is posted HERE.

If called back, it is required/assumed that you will/have read the entire play.  The script is HERE and will be available through the weekend.  (Note:  The script is no longer available here due to copyright. The cast will receive scripts at the first rehearsal.)

The focus of callbacks will be to see character combinations.  It will involve cold reads (scenes from the script that you haven't prepared in advance), which is why reading the entire script is so important for Callbacks.  It's easiest to portray characters that you understand in the context of the story/script.

INTEREST IN CREW:

If you'd like to be on CREW, complete a Crew Application HERE.  (I plan to post crew apps shortly after the show is cast, however this show will not require a large crew, FYI.)
