Stagecraft:  Week 3
(February 12-16, 2024)

Important terms are in RED.

Google Classroom assignments are in BLUE.

If ABSENT, you are REQUIRED to read / understand / do all activities posted for that day, even if it's not an "assignment"/homework. 

Day 1: Begin Flat/Platform Build (Cut Lists)

 

1.) Announcements:  

  •  Bring PAINT CLOTHES  (oversized clothes that can go OVER your school clothes when you do painting projects)

  • There will be a QUIZ FRIDAY ON: on Stages, Stage Terms, & Materials used to Build Flats/Platforms

  • In order to study/prepare for your quiz, re-watch, or study your Google Classroom CLASS NOTES from:

2.)  Reviewed terms/concepts learned in class, including:  Main, border, legs, (back)drops, scrim, cyc

3.) Learned about Stage Directions (SL, SR, US, DS, etc.), and practiced stage directions in groups.  (See image on bottom of Stage Terms page in Google Classroom CLASS NOTES.

4.) KP Introduced our first building project:  Building  a flat or platform 

  • Watched:  Video of How to Build a Flat (watch if you were absent today)

  • Reviewed:  How to build a platform (in Google Classroom - Class NOTES) (read if you were absent today)

5.) Learned what a cut list is, and why builders use them.  Each building group (assigned by KP/John) received their own cut list in order to prepare for building a flat/platform.  Remember:  Measure twice, cut once!

6.) Once groups finished their cut lists, they went down to the shop to gather materials & make cuts for flat/platform build build/assembly.

Day 2: Build Flat/Platform  (Cuts / Assembly)

1.)  Announcements:  

  • There will be a quiz on Friday (see #1 under Day 1 above)

  • Bring Paint Clothes (see #1 under Day 1 above)

 

2.)  Built flats & platforms (in groups) in the scene shop.

DAY 3:  Review Games

1.)  Announcements:  

  • There will be a quiz on Friday (see #1 under Day 1 above)

  • Bring Paint Clothes (see #1 under Day 1 above)

2.) Played a review game (as a class) for tomorrow's quiz.  Winners earned extra credit on quiz.

Day 4:  Summative Quiz (Stage Terms + Flats/Plats)

1.) Demonstrated knowledge and understanding (IB Criterion A) of theatre terms and concepts learned so far in Stagecraft by completing a SUMMATIVE QUIZ

  • See above for further explanation of what was on the Quiz; if you were ABSENT today, you must take the quiz when you return - grade will remain zero until you do, so see Ms. Price.

2.) After Quiz:  Continued flats & platforms (in groups) in the scene shop.  (If not done, groups will finish after Mid-Winter Break and then prime flats & caster platforms.)
