  5. Improv Activity #2: Shifting Focus (focus:  sharing the scene)

Monday, March 28, 2016 (Improvisation)

  1. Reminder:  Your written critique is due on March 31.  Miss Price WON'T accept late.

  2. Students performed their prepared (30 second) monologues and received coaching from Ms. Price on ways to adjust and enhance their character/performance.

  3. Discussed learning goals for today's improv:  1.) to "say yes" in an improvised situation/scene 2.) to have fun

  4. Reviewed tips on "giving gifts" (character, environment, etc.) in an improvised scene

  5. Handout:  Improv "Rules" (learned and filled in "rules")

  6. Learned about the first "rule" of improv:  "say YES!" (i.e. agree to the situation established; accept the "reality" created by your partner)

  7. Activity:  Improvised tug of war / Discussed activity in relation to improv / improv rules

  8. Watched a clip from "Whose Line is it Anyway?" and discussed the ways in which the improvisers said "yes" in the scene

Tuesday, March 29, 2016 (Improvisation)

  1. Reminder:  Your written critique is due on March 31.  Miss Price WON'T accept late.

  2. Students performed their prepared (30 second) monologues and received coaching from Ms. Price on ways to adjust and enhance their character/performance.

  3. Discussed learning goals for today's improv:  1.) to "yes, and..." in an improvised situation/scene 2.) to have fun

  4. Handout:  Improv "Rules" (learned and filled in "rules")

  5. Learned about the second "rule" of improv:  "say YES, AND!" (i.e. agree to the situation established; accept the "reality" created by your partner BUT also add on to it)

  6. Improv Activity (all-class):  Partner Yes, and... (partnered up and practiced the skill of rule #2 with prompts given by Ms. Price)

  7. Learned about the third rule of improv:  "Always seek to make your PARTNER look good"

  8. Discussed ways in which improvers could accomplish this goal (focus on gift-giving, avoid questions, etc.)

  9. Watched a clip from "Whose Line is it Anyway?" that showed how difficult questions can be on your partner.  The game is called "Questions" (clip 1 & clip 2)

  10. Improv Activity (volunteers):  Practiced playing "Questions" to learn the difficulty of questions in an improvised scene. 

  11. Completed exit questions (in Acting journal)

Wednesday, March 30, 2016 (Improvisation)

  6. Improv Activity (all-class):  Practiced "giving gifts" in a scene (1-line character & 1-line environment "gifts")

  7. Activity (volunteers):  One-line scene starters (Using the one lines given in the above activity, volunteers improvised scenes for an audience)

  8. Completed exit questions (in Acting journal)

  2. Students performed their prepared (30 second) monologues and received coaching from Ms. Price on ways to adjust and enhance their character/performance.

  3. Discussed learning goals for today's improv:  1.) to "give gifts" in an improvised situation/scene 2.) to have fun

  4. Reviewed improv "rules"

  5. Warm-up activity (all-class):  Emotional Fruit Salad  (focused on making big choices)

  6. Improv Activity (all-class):  Practiced "giving gifts" in a scene (1-line character & 1-line environment "gifts")

  7. Activity (volunteers):  One-line scene starters (using line prompts given by Ms. Price)

  8. Completed exit questions (in Acting journal)
