KRISTA D. PRICE
Stagecraft Week 16
(May 13-17, 2024)
Important terms/concepts/info are in RED.
Google Classroom assignments are in BLUE.
Ms. Price provides ALL learning for absent students in a self-directed format. If absent, read & understand/complete each of the day's activities below.
You are EXPECTED to keep up with what's going on in class.
Day 1: Your Script's LOCATIONS/NEEDS
1.) Received the ASSIGNMENT for your Summative Stagecraft Project (click HERE) and the RUBRIC (click HERE). (This will be the rubric for your FINAL set designs & presentation. Your final project is also your EXAM.)
2.) Reviewed the process of scenic design.
-
Reminder: The script doesn't tell you WHAT to build/design. Set design requires that you understand the needs of the script and can interpret the script in order to design what works best for the way the director/designer wants to tell the story.
3.) Watched a video that reviewed the scenic design process, and learned about literal vs. figurative design. (watch 0:00-3:52)
4.) Completed the following:
-
Finish reading/listening to your entire script and highlight scenic needs (if not already finished).
-
When done reading:
-
List all the show's locations (in order) in Google Classroom - Assignment title: Locations & Script Needs (Scenic Design Project) Complete TAB 1 ("LOCATIONS"). This assignment is simply listing all the different locations in your musical - follow all directions at the top of Tab 1. (See Ms. Price's EXAMPLE in tab 3.)
-
Choose back-to-back scenes from your musical that you would like to design sets for. You can NOT choose a scene that ends an act. (Highlight those back-to-back scenes in yellow; follow all directions at the top of Tab 1 in the assignment described above.)
-
Indicate EVERY time that location appears in the show (Highlight that location in blue ever time it appears in the show; follow all directions at the top of Tab 1 in the assignment described above.)
-
Complete TAB 3 ("NEEEDS FOR YOUR LOCATIONS"). This assignment is simply to add your highlighted information for your chosen locations/scenes into one place so you can see all needs for that location. Follow all directions at the top of Tab 3 in the assignment described above.
-
-
The above assignment is DUE (and will be graded) by Wednesday, May 15.
Day 2: Script NEEDS / EXPLORATION
1.) Reviewed the ASSIGNMENT for your Summative Stagecraft Project (click HERE) and the RUBRIC (click HERE). (This will be the rubric for your FINAL set designs & presentation. Your final project is also your EXAM.)
2.) Watched a video about one designer's process. (If absent, watch HERE.) Discussed traits of a good designer, and what designers often research.
3.) Learned about the role of research in design, and the various things you can explore about your script/story that could give you inspiration for your OWN design.
4.) Reviewed the assignment from yesterday...see yesterday's schedule above. (Remember, you must FIRST read/highlight entire script before working on your Locations/Needs assignment!)
5.) Worked on an assignment in Google Classroom: LOCATIONS & SCRIPT NEEDS (Scenic Design Project). If absent, FOLLOW DIRECTIONS for this assignment at the top of Tabs 1 & 2. Examples are given by Ms. Price for The Little Mermaid in Tab 2 & 3. If absent, you MUST complete this assignment before next class so that you don't fall further behind in the process.
6.) Once finished with Locations/Needs assignment you can begin the process of Exploration/Research and complete assignment in Google Classroom: SCENIC EXPLORATION/RESEARCH (Scenic Design Project). (Follow directions on 2nd slide.)
Day 3: Script NEEDS / EXPLORATION
1.) Discussed: Based on your show's/scene's NEEDS, what might you need to RESEARCH / EXPLORE to INSPIRE your own ideas?
2.) Watched a video about how to move from your script's/scene's NEEDS to EXPLORATION/RESEARCH.
3.) Ms. Price met with each group to go over their script/scene NEEDS (for a grade).
4.) Students worked on EXPLORATION/RESEARCH by completing an assignment in Google Classroom: SCENIC EXPLORATION/RESEARCH (Scenic Design Project). (Be sure to follow directions on 2nd slide...and be CURIOUS as you explore/research.)
