Stagecraft Week 7:  What's UP there? 
(Lighting)
October 6-8, 2021 (Fall Break Week)

Important terms are in RED.

Google Classroom assignments are in BLUE.

If ABSENT, you are REQUIRED to read / understand / do all activities posted for that day, even if it's not an "assignment".  

DAY 1:

1.)  Ms. Price reviewed our current unit in Stagecraft:  WHAT'S UP THERE?   (A unit in which we will study the world above the stage & audience - including the fly system, types of drops and drapes, types of lighting fixtures, the catwalks, the spot light, etc.)

2.) Reviewed:  Students reviewed lighting terms already learned in Stagecraft, including types of theatre lighting fixtures, parts of a lighting fixture, conventional lights, practicals,  gels, and gobos. and the job of a lighting designer.

3.) Chose:  Students chose an area (from the IB Learner Profile) to individually focus on this week.  (If Absent, be sure to choose your individual "focus" for the week, and write it down under Week 7 in your REFLECTION JOURNAL in Google Classroom.  (Also be sure you answered the "End of the Week" question for LAST week.)

4.) Went to the theatre with G to learn about how to run the spotlight (and other lighting).

DAY 2:  (Note: No class on Thursday due to Advisory, making this a 2-day week)

1.) Reviewed students' individual focus for the week and discussed what was learned in the theatre last class.

 

2.) Watched a video  (The Stagehand who told Stories with Lights5:58) and reflected on 2-3 things that you found interesting, intriguing or new (in Google ClassroomREFLECTION JOURNAL week 7). Title:  Hamilton Lighting (Electrician)  If absent, be sure to do this on your own.

3.) Reviewed the three jobs of a lighting designer: 

1.) to light the actor (front light)

2.) to show setting/time of day/season (cyc lights, scenery light, etc.)

3.) to create the mood (color, direction of light, use of gobos, scrims, etc.)

4.) Observed various photos from stage and analyzed (with a partner) the mood/meaning conveyed through lighting.

5.)  Watched a video   (Working in Theatre: Sound & Light Board Operators - 4:00) and reflected on 2-3 things that you learned about light/sound (in Google ClassroomREFLECTION JOURNAL week 7). Title:  Light & Sound Board Operators)  If absent, be sure to do this on your own.

6.) Learned how to properly wrap a cord/cable.

7.) Previewed what we'll be learning next week:  WHAT'S BACK THERE?  (If you were to go backstage during a production what types of things might you see?  What types of people would be doing what types of jobs?

8.) Journaled about what you've liked/learned in this unit.

  •  Journal Title:  What I've enjoyed/learned about Fly Lines & Lighting (Google Classroom - REFLECTION JOURNAL)   If absent, be sure to do this on your own.

    •  Describe (full sentences) what you've enjoyed or learned most from our mini-unit on lighting, fly lines, and sound...and why.

9.) Completed your end-of-week reflection for this week (bottom of this week's page in your Google Classroom - REFLECTION JOURNAL.)  If absent, be sure to do this on your own.
